More Than Scaled [or Feathered] Motorcycles: Unique Dinosaur Mounts. [Steal][My][Idea]

In worlds with dinosaurs, why limit mount possibilities to horses? But don’t just have a copy/paste dinosaur. Give it some personality, qualities, and flaws unique to it.

This provides ten personality traits, physical distinctions, penalties, and bonuses that you can apply to a dinosaur. Each of the ten physical distinctions, penalties, and bonuses corresponds with the same number on each list, though you can mix them up if you wish. You can roll 1d10, apply the personality trait of the number rolled, then roll 3d10 and apply the features from each list. Alternatively, you can roll 1d10 for each list, giving you a random choice for each.

The mechanics are based on Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition, but can easily be adapted to other systems. Suggested dinosaurs: allosaurus, ankylosaurus, deinonychus, hadrosaurus, stegosaurus, & triceratops. Continue reading “More Than Scaled [or Feathered] Motorcycles: Unique Dinosaur Mounts. Quit Horsing Around: 5 D&D 5e Vermin Mounts [Steal [Our] Idea]

In worlds brimming with impossible creatures, why only use horses for mounts? The range of available mounts stops only at your willingness to find and train them.

If you want to add some personality or quirks to each creature, swing by Steal [Our] Idea: More Than Hairy Motorcycles: Horse Breeds, Personality Traits, Visual Distinctions, and How They all Matter

While you can easily adapt for other systems, they are designed for Dungeons and Dragons 5e.

Steal [Our] Idea: Famous Monsters and Local Legends (The Gollicking)

Sometimes, creatures haunt a location, develop quirks, or are unique to their species. These creatures are one-of-a-kind and have unique attributes to reflect that.

For mine specifically, Boaun and Oolalyle, you can see them below. For all 10, check out the Reddit post! Continue reading “Steal [Our] Idea: Famous Monsters and Local Legends (The Gollicking)”

Steal [Our] Idea: More Than Hairy Motorcycles: Horse Breeds, Personality Traits, Visual Distinctions, and How They all Matter

[Also available on PDF: HorseBreedsByTheGollicking]

Travel is a distinct part of RPGs. Often times, player’s mounts are all but forgotten in scuffles or when left at the mouth of a dungeon. We think that is a shame. Horses should be as special as magic items, having names and distinct appearances. They should almost be an NPC’s of their own, with personalities, quirks, and good and bad behaviour.

Whenever your players are looking for a new steed or pack buddy, you can follow this guide. The first step is to figure out which breeds would be for sale in the region. You can use this guide to pick a distinct breed and roll for two random traits and a distinguishing feature. Or if you find a horse in the wild, you can roll a d20 to find out which breed it is.

We have a lot of love for non-horse mounts too (war dogs, reptiles, dire chickens…) and we plan on making rules for those as well, but these are all strictly horses.

Steal [Our] Idea: The Temple of Dosh-Grub – a five room dungeon with unique treasure

Six of us in The Gollicking posed a friendly challenge: we all choose a single item from the WTF Is My Ridiculous Magical Item Generator we split into three teams and all built a five room dungeon out of it. All three of our dungeons were themed around this item: POWERFUL GOBLIN SKULL THAT STEALS COINS WHENEVER YOU REPEAT SOMETHING SOMEONE RECENTLY SAID.

You can get all three dungeons from the Reddit post linked above. /u/PaganUnicorn and I [/u/RexiconJesse] teamed up to build a glorious 5 room dungeon about ticks and greed called The Temple of Dosh-Grub.

Here’s the link to the google doc where PaganUnicorn did a fantastic job formatting it to look beautiful.

Here’s the PDF of The Temple of Dosh-Grub for you!

The text only version follows below.

/u/Mimir-ion and /u/unkindnessnevermore made Holy Matrimoly!

/u/famoushippopotamus and /u/DeathMcGunz made A Skull Full of Coins.

Enjoy! And don’t get greedy! Continue reading “Steal [Our] Idea: The Temple of Dosh-Grub – a five room dungeon with unique treasure”

Steal [Our] Idea – The Red Sky Hydra: The Living Ship for GMs Who Like a Role-Playing Challenge

Thanks to fellow Gollicking members u/Paddywagon for writing Flannibal the Cannibal, and u/DwizKhalifa for writing Dirty Jones. In the city of Valtarin, a curse caused the residents to become animate objects. While everyone else was trapped within the city limits, the guards and prisoners in the dungeon near the edge of the ocean experienced a different fate. Rather than becoming separate objects, they all became different parts of the same ship. They alone have the ability to escape the bounds of the curse, allowing them to sail the high seas… when they can coordinate long enough to do so.The Red Sky Hydra is a two-mast merchant ship equipped with a dozen cannons. It’s figurehead is an eleven-headed hydra, and it’s serpentine body stretches down the length of the ship on both sides.
